Palliative Care Pups

Sanctuary Acres Boxer Rescue (SABR) Palliative Care Program cares for geriatric, terminally ill and medically fragile dogs. SABR insures these dogs are kept comfortable while they live their final days.

In our care, these pups are vetted, and get to complete their bucket lists with the help of their foster family and sponsors.

Sponsorship is so important to our palliative care program because the health and safety of these dogs is our number one priority. We incur monthly bills from veterinary care, dentistry, dietary needs, medicine, and supplies such as diapers, pee pads, and so on. One time donations can also go directly to offsetting these ever-mounting costs.

Thank you for your generous love and support. Together we can and will continue to change the life of one baby at a time. Dogs in our Palliative Care Program who would otherwise be left behind and potentially euthanized before their time.

If you have any questions, would like to make a one-time donation, or would like to become a monthly sponsor (of any dollar amount), please contact us.

KING CODY

We are looking for a foster for King Cody.

King Cody is 7 years old and was never brought to the vet. He visited the vet the day after his arrival to SABR and unfortunately has tested positive for heartworm disease. Along with heartworm, he has quite a bit of arthritis, mild hip dysplasia, and is intact.

He is a gentle sweet boy who will need a quiet foster home near Roanoke, VA (where his vet is located) to continue his medications and treatments.

If you feel you can open your heart and home to King Cody, please complete a Foster Application.

LUNA

We have finally been able to find out SOME background information on Luna, since we received absolutely nothing from the person that surrendered her.

Luna's birthdate is 3/5/2016, so we're looking forward to celebrating her 10th birthday!

She arrived at SABR 1/31 absolutely emaciated. We had a vet visit on 2/3 with labwork done to confirm that there are no underlying issues...she was just starved.  She weighed 31 pounds on 2/3, and at her follow up visit on 2/19 she tipped the scale at 33 pounds! Baby steps, but she's slowly progressing.

JACK

10 year old Jack was found dragging himself along a WV road. He was in extremely poor shape and malnourished. He's been vetted, treated for worms and fleas, vaccinated, and neutered.

Jack has Degenerative Myelopathy (DM) which is a "painless" neurological disorder that is similar to ALS in humans.

SABR was blessed to find a loving foster that (unfortunately) is familiar with DM and helping Jack get around in his wheelchair.

Jack will never see the inside of a shelter again. He'll never need to fend for himself alone outside again. He will live the best rest of his life in the loving care of SABR.
